About Me

Welcome - I'm Mahtaab! I believe being human is a very complex experience. Our lives are ever-changing, vibrant, overwhelming, and at times dark. My own hardships and stressful experiences, coupled with my curiosity about life and my desire to connect with others on a deeper level, have ultimately guided me to become a therapist. This profession has enhanced my appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit. In addition to my training and education, I draw from my intuitive skills to help you identify, articulate, and express your emotions.A bit about me: I was born and raised in Minnesota to parents who migrated from Iran, and I have been in San Diego since 2016 after living abroad in New Zealand for a year. I speak English and Farsi, and I appreciate my bicultural upbringing and the diverse perspectives it offers. When I’m not in my therapy room, you’ll likely find me outdoors, planning an adventure, cuddling with my blind cat, experimenting in the kitchen, or buying a new plant. :)

My Mission

My goal is simple, yet profound for transformation and growth: to co-create a genuine, warm, and non-judgmental environment that is uniquely yours. In our time together, you can safely explore your inner world and the layers of your experience. Whether we’re navigating through painful memories or celebrating moments of joy, my goal is to accompany you on your path toward self-empowerment and feeling whole. Emotions are a vital part of the human experience, and it is part of my mission to be thereto guide you through them with compassion and understanding. Together, we’ll build on your inner resources, empowering you to live a life that aligns with your authentic self and your personal goals for therapy.

My Approach

In my therapeutic approach, I prioritize your unique needs and experiences and bring my authentic self to sessions creating a place to feel safe with yourself. My approach is rooted in cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care drawing from evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Mindfulness Self-Compassion. I believe in the power of storytelling, experiential work, and self-reflection to foster transformation and growth. I take a holistic and existential approach to healing that honors the interconnectedness of mind, body, and soul. Drawing from my experience, I concentrate in supporting individuals dealing with a range of challenges, including PTSD (both complex and single event), anxiety and depressive disorders, mood disorders, recovery from narcissistic abuse, grief, adjustments, and relationship hurdles stemming from the unique dynamics of first-generation families. It is a privilege to be considered as a guide on your path toward enhanced well-being. I invite you to reach out when you’re ready to take this step and my contact information is below.
